The TAB serves a vital role for AFSAP as we continue to grow AFSAP and support the advancement of food safety auditors around the world. Comprised of Trade Associations, and Individuals with unsurpassed expertise in their chosen food sectors, the TAB serves to advise and support AFSAP’s technical content development activities in training and audit tool development. TAB members may be added to represent key product sectors where gaps are identified. Their technical expertise and industry experience will vastly improve the quality of AFSAP’s Committee output and the Auditor Academy’s knowledge base library.
Gary is President of G&L Consulting Group, LLC. He is an experienced food professional having worked in the technical, manufacturing and marketing areas of the Food and Food Service Industry. He provides Food Safety, Quality Assurance, Crisis Planning, Risk Assessment, Acquisition Identification and Assessment and Strategic Planning assistance to his clients (Farm to Fork).
Prior to his current position, he held senior level positions with Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club, Foster Farms and Tasty Baking Company as well as with Arthur D. Little (ADL) and Technomic. He has also been a principal with Marketing Spectrum and Technical Food Information Spectrum (TFIS).
He is one of the authors of a recently published book by Academic Press entitled “Food Safety- A Roadmap To Success”. It identifies and discusses the pieces of the Food Safety Puzzle-: Culture, Management Commitment, Organizational Structure, Implementation and the Glue that holds it together:
Communication/Education/Training, Influence, Accountability and Metrics. It is designed to be utilized by Food Safety Professionals to protect their company’s brand, the customer and consumer and help them get the resources (people, money and departmental cooperation) that they need to effectively do their job and succeed.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree and Master of Science degree in Food Science from The Pennsylvania State University and his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Food Science & Technology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
Ram is a ISO 9001 Lead Auditor with extensive food safety/GAP and organic auditing experience. Ram specializes in organic aquaculture standard and curriculum development. He has collaborated with the Produce GAP Harmonization Initiative, Global Food Safety Initiative, and GLOBALG.A.P. scheme training material and small holder guides. Ram is a FSPCA Lead Instructor for the Foreign Supplier Verification Program and Lead Trainer for the Produce Safety Rule. Ram has served in on numerous boards of directors including serving as the Organic Material Review Institute Board Chair.
Ramkrishnan (Ram) Balasubramanian earned his Ph.D. in Crop Sciences, Masters in Agricultural Engineering, and Masters in Ecological Agriculture. He also holds a Master’s in Business Administration.
Dane Bernard has spent over 40 years in the food safety area and currently manages his own consulting business. Dane received his B.S. from Purdue University and a Masters from the University of Maryland. Until his retirement, he was Global Vice President of Food Safety and Quality at Keystone Foods. His career began as a food inspection specialist in the US Army followed by various positions in Washington DC at the National Canners Association/National Food Processors Association.
Mr. Bernard has been an invited expert to seven food safety related International Consultations sponsored by FAO and / or WHO, has participated in working groups for various professional societies, and served on the US National Advisory Committee for Microbiological Criteria for Food. He also served as an industry representative to Council III (Science) of the National Conference for Food Protection and as an industry advisor to the US Delegation to the Codex Committee on Food Hygiene. A recognized process authority, he has worked on various aspects of HACCP and HACCP training, risk management and risk communications and management of food borne pathogens.
Mr. Bernard holds memberships in several professional societies including the American Society for Microbiology, the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), and the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP). He is a past recipient of the Harold Barnum award (IAFP), the Carl Fellers award (IFT), and presented the Silliker lecture at the 2013 IAFP meeting.
Don Moffett has built his career by leading product quality, safety, integrity and social compliance auditing teams for testing laboratories and product development for both domestic and international service providers Fortune 500 consumer product firms for the past 20 years. After obtaining a Master of Science degree in General Engineering from the University of Illinois, Don embarked on a professional journey to become one of the leading product safety and risk assessment experts in the consumer products industry with an extensive skillset in business process development using risk based methodologies and Six Sigma principles. Don is currently providing consulting services under Product Integrity Consulting Services.
Ramakrishnan Narasimhan (aka ‘Rama) is the Vice President, Product Safety and Research of Food Safety at Perry Johnson Registrar Food Safety Inc. Troy, MI. He is a versatile food safety professional with an in-depth technical knowledge and senior management experience in the manufacturing and regulatory areas of food, drug, natural products and also other consumer products sectors. He has over 30 years of international experience in the food industry and was associated with multinational companies such as Nestle. He holds a PhD in food science and holds the following professional certifications.

- Auditor (CHA); Certified Quality Auditor (CQA); Certified Manager of Quality and
